US Navy warships fired SM-3s to intercept Iranian ballistic missiles last weekend. AdvertisementUS Navy warships used a missile interceptor for the first time in combat over the weekend as they defended Israel from an unprecedented Iranian attack. AdvertisementA developmental Standard Missile-3, designed to intercept short to medium-ranged ballistic missile threats, is launched from the Pearl Harbor-based Aegis cruiser USS Lake Erie. There are multiple SM-3 variants, which can be fired from a Navy warship's vertical launching system, and the Block I interceptors were first fielded nearly 20 years ago. US Central Command said American forces, specifically, destroyed more than 80 drones and at least six ballistic missiles.

In this photo illustration, the new Twitter logo rebranded as X (X Corp.) is seen on a smartphone and Elon Musk Twitter account with the new X logo on a pc screen. The X social media platform formerly known as Twitter will start collecting the biometric and employment information of its users, according to a Thursday update to the company's privacy policy. It is not clear how X plans to use the biometric information of users. X could theoretically collect biometric information from users through their photos or video, by requesting that they turn on their camera. Under Musk, X has sought to expand its reach beyond social media, messaging and audio content into areas such as financial services and recruitment.

Asian stocks fell to a one-month low and European indexes were in the red, with the STOXX 600 down 0.8% at 1125 GMT (.STOXX). "We’re still getting a mixed message from the inflation numbers," said Ben Laidler, global markets strategist at eToro. The pound was up 0.4% at $1.2725 , after GDP data showed Britain eked out some unexpected growth in the second quarter, helped by a strong June performance. But it remains the only large advanced economy that has not yet regained its pre-COVID late-2019 level, data showed on Friday. Investors will be watching for UK inflation data next Wednesday.

"We're going to see our first rise in headline inflation after 12 consecutive months of falling prices," said Ben Laidler, global markets strategist at eToro. The pan-European benchmark STOXX 600 (.STOXX) rose 0.5%, supported by gains in the luxury sector (.STXLUXP) after China lifted a ban on group tours in the United States and other key markets. In currency markets, the dollar index , which measures the U.S. currency against six peers, eased 0.4%. "We've got $1 trillion coming down the pipe over the next three months," eToro's Laidler said. "Any sign that markets are absorbing that well, which we got the first signs of yesterday, will be very well taken."

Elon Musk's X app is looking to build a stock-trading hub within the platform, according to Semafor. But Musk said on X: "No work is being done on this to the best of my knowledge." Still, considerations for how to turn X into a trading hub would not be far off prior ideas for the platform. In April, Twitter also entered into a partnership with eToro to allow users to trade stocks and other assets, by giving them access to eToro's platform. Musk has had plans to create a go-to app for a variety of services, and in October, he tweeted, "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app."

Pedro Fiúza | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesStock trading platform eToro agreed to a $120 million secondary share sale, giving the company a slightly lower valuation than the $3.5 billion it was valued at in a primary funding round earlier this year. The round is a secondary share sale, meaning the company hasn't issued any new shares and won't net any income from the transaction. eToro is not raising money — rather it is a moment for some long standing shareholders and employees to take some liquidity. EToro most recently raised $250 million from investors at a $3.5 billion valuation, far lower than the $10 billion it was seeking in its bid to float via SPAC. EToro agreed it would convert the investment to equity on the condition that the SPAC deal doesn't go ahead — which it didn't.

Meanwhile, Turkey's lira plunged to a record low against the greenback as authorities appeared to loosen stabilising measures after the government signalled a pivot to more orthodox policies. Spanish stocks (.IBEX) outperformed after shares in the world's biggest fast fashion company Inditex (ITX.MC) jumped almost 7% following first quarter results. That left the MSCI's broadest index of world shares (.MIWD00000PUS) up just under 0.1% but close to its highest level in 13 months reached on Monday. The dollar fell 0.1% against a basket of currencies, while the Turkish lira weakened over 7% to a record low of 23.17 per dollar, its biggest one-day sell-off since the 2021 crash. Bitcoin was trading at about $26,900, consolidating after a sharp rebound on Tuesday from as low as $25,350.

The crypto market leader finished May down 7.9%, according to Coin Metrics, while ether posted a 2% loss. Absent other clear catalysts – such as the U.S. regional bank crisis whose start and end coincided with the crypto rally – price movements in June will probably be determined yet again by inflation, monetary policy and regulatory updates. "Crypto investors will probably follow the economy for clues on where prices go next," said Callie Cox, an analyst at the investment company eToro. "Bitcoin and ether are likely to gather assets from the more speculative crypto currencies that investors have abandoned since the various scandals," she added. Prices, like growth stock valuations, have come down and made the asset more digestible, and interesting, particularly for institutional investors.

[1/3] A keyboard is placed in front of a displayed Twitter logo in this illustration taken February 21, 2023. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo/File PhotoApril 13 (Reuters) - Trading and investing platform eToro said on Thursday it has partnered with Elon Musk-led Twitter to let users access real-time prices for cryptocurrencies, stocks and others assets. The trading data will be available through Twitter's Cashtags feature, which was launched in 2012 and allows users to interact with content around an asset by inserting a dollar sign in front of the ticker. Twitter users were earlier able to view real-time trading data from markets-charting platform TradingView, but only on some assets such as the S&P 500 index and shares of certain companies such as Tesla (TSLA.O). Now, they can click through to eToro's platform to see information about the asset, with an added option to invest.
Elon Musk told a Morgan Stanley conference last month he wants Twitter to become "the biggest financial institution in the world." Twitter will let its users access stocks, cryptocurrencies and other financial assets through a partnership with eToro, a social trading company. With the eToro partnership, Twitter cashtags will be expanded to cover far more instruments and asset classes, an eToro spokesperson told CNBC. We believe this partnership will enable us to reach those new audiences [and] connect better the brands of Twitter and eToro." Founded in Israel in 2007, eToro is an online brokerage that lets users buy and sell stocks, cryptocurrencies and index funds.
Twitter has partnered with brokerage firm eToro to give users more financial data. The collaboration is a step toward Musk's plans to create an "everything app." The new feature will begin appearing in the app on Thursday, eToro disclosed to CNBC. Twitter's new trading feature comes after Musk merged Twitter under the X Corp this week and filed for regulatory licenses that would facilitate in-app payments. Musk has plans to create a go-to app for a variety of services, and in October, he tweeted, "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app."

By Danielle BroadwayLOS ANGELES, March 12 (Reuters) - Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio" won the Academy Award for best animated feature film on Sunday, the third Oscar of his career. Del Toro, 58, reimagines the classic story of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet who dreams of being a real boy, who is cared for by carver Geppetto. However, the story of the Netflix Inc (NFLX.O) film is set in Fascist Italy during the interwar period and World War Two. "Pinocchio" prevailed over other popular nominees A24's stop-motion film "Marcel the Shell With Shoes On" and the Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) 3D animated film "Turning Red." Del Toro has many accolades, including his 2018 Oscar wins for best picture and best director for "The Shape of Water."
The movie claimed seven awards overall, including three of the four acting Oscars for stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis, who built a career in horror films such as "Halloween," won best supporting actress for playing a frumpy tax agent named Deirdre Beaubeirdre. "The Whale" star Brendan Fraser, known for 1990s roles such as "The Mummy" and "Encino Man," won best actor for playing a severely obese man trying to reconnect with his daughter. "Naatu Naatu," a song from the Indian movie "RRR" that created a viral dance sensation, was honored as best original song. The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was broadcast live on Walt Disney Co's (DIS.N) ABC network.
